Swallow Magazine is a food and travel magazine unlike any other.
Presented annually in varying formats (hardbound books, or with clothbound cotton covers) the magazine avoids the usual foodie clichés; showcasing compelling content, both visual and written.
With contributors more often than not from the worlds of art and fashion, Swallow glances at the world of food from a sideways perspective.
Swallow is the proud recipient of 3 D&AD; awards for photography, illustration and magazine design—accolades seldom awarded to publications dedicated to the gastronomic arts!
Each issue with a different featured destination is an opportunity to observe culinary diversity worldwide.
Issue #1 “ The Nordic Issue” revealed the then nascent New Nordic food scene which has since become a global phenomenon. Issue #2 was our “The Trans-Siberian” excursion – and now issue #3 “Mexico City”.
From high culture, to low—Mexico City is without a doubt one of the world's greatest dining destinations. Swallow transports the reader to the streets of this buzzing metropolis through engaging photography and modern design. The Mexico City issue features innovative scratch-and-sniff smells from 20 urban neighborhoods. To create these, Swallow teamed up with noted scent researcher Sissel Tolaas. Like in real life, these scents are randomly placed throughout the issue, allowing the reader to get one step closer to the featured destination.
Swallow was founded in 2009 by creative director and editor James Casey.
